Et voilà, here we have lots of shiny golden Retrodes for the preorderers. I will ship them this week, just in time so you can try your brand new Retrode with your brand new Pandora :-) For all others, I have to ask you for a little more patience. Next week I will be out of town, so regular ordering will not start before Feb 22.

Just confirming with the group – Retrode received.

I’ve been playing SNES cartridges on my PC, with a PSX controller .. and NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS.

Let’s all help spread the good word ‘Retrode’..

I have mine! Actually got it two days ago. I haven’t actually plugged it in (had to get ahold of a USB cord) but I’ve got two cartridges in it and so excited to get my emu on

Any news when normal orders can happen?

  • Dark Grue

Got mine in the mail yesterday. Had time today to unbox it, check it quickly (only complaint was two case screws were missing, and one has been inserted part-way crooked), then immediately went and did the PCB modification for Knuckles in Sonic 2. Works fine, and the instructions were easy to follow.

Just as a hint for folks who might also attempt it: you might find as I did, that wire-wrap wire (30 gauge) works best for this mod – it’s very thin to make that Point A connection off the chip, and the insulation on wire-wrap wire is pretty heat-resistent, and won’t pull back and melt like some wire insulation will. Also, using masking tape to mask off Points A and B on the component side of the board can make soldering easier, especially if you have shaky hands.

    • Oops, what’s that about the screws? Seems my supersophisticated assembly pipeline is not as foolproof as I hoped it would be. Just drop me a e-mail so I can send you replacement screws.

Following up to my post. I contacted Matthias to have replacement screws shipped, which he did so at his own expense. I have to give him probs for not only offering to fix what really amounts to a minor problem, but doing so quickly and cheerfully. Good product, good support, good job!

  • YAY I got mine. Works great with all my Genesis Carts :-D

In regards to cleaning, if you can get one a simple eraser can be good, other than that a cotton bud that’s lightly damp with work well, just make sure you wipe the water of the connectors with another cotton bud, these babies are brand new, you don’t want to ruin them already.

I’ll second using a good pencil eraser to clean the contacts, I had to clean a few of mine before they worked. Pal/Jap carts fit fine into my case Thom (have been rocking my Jap Super Bomber Man since my retrode arrived, using proper Snes pads with it too, such a good purchase :)

Mine has arrived! I’ll rip it open when I get home! SUPER EXCITED!!!!!111one

Firstly the gold colour is really nice, I didn’t think I would like it but it’s cool as cake.
First game I tried was Stunt Race FX which was a terrible choice but it worked perfectly.

After that I’ve been having some problems. But this is probably not the place to go over those.
Gods worked after a couple of tries, could be that the euro snes carts don’t fit so snugly in the slot or something.

Yoshis Island was recognised for a moment with it’s sram but then corrupted. Finally got it to work by copying the rom off the cart.

Some teething troubles. Vista really doesnt like it when you yank the cart while it’s doing something. Anything.

        • Thom

Rtype 3 Starwing both worked without any problems. I guess my copy of yoshis island must be a bit rusty :)
Playing with my custom usb snes controller. Such fun!

          • Luke Johnson

Well since Mattias is on vacation or something I should say he really emphasized cleaning your cart connectors for best results (as it is doing a 100% checksum instead of just checking the boot materials)

            • FelixV

Agreed. I had to clean my DK Country 2 cart a few times (it was that gunky…)
before it was in shape to put into the Retrode.

Off topic, but the SNES support built into the retrode is just perfect. Wired it up and was off playing in no time.

        • > Gods worked after a couple of tries, could be that the euro snes carts don’t fit so snugly in the slot or something.

Yeah, the problem is that European and Japanese carts fit almost completely inside American ones, so if the larger ones fit, the smaller ones (European) won’t have much mechanical guidance. It’s really hard to find the right compromise.

  • Rob Jacobs

‘Tis received! (Deutsche Post is pretty fast…)

It’s working fine, and even read out my non-working Super Metroid cart. Even emulators can’t boot with the savegame on it, but the ROM alone works. To reset the SRAM, do I make it all 0xFF or 0×00?

    Nice work Matthias!

  • YoshiFan501

    I’m savin up for one!

  • JonY

Ooh, gold looks pretty… Are us prototype owners still getting the ‘Golden Edition’ case too?

  • O.o

This is awesome. I can’t wait to get mine. I’ll be sure to take photos and but them on my blog :P

  • Luke Johnson

Thanks man – what a beautiful day it is!

  • I am so excited! Looking forward to it!
Well done for getting this project completed and shipped. I remember reading about the prototype and thinking it was the awesome.

  • Ale

Congrats on a job well done, man I really need one of those.

  • Jesse Vaitkus

    It’s… so… beautiful
:’( Tears of joy, tears of joy.
