Got a lot of things done lately! In particular, the GB/GBA/N64 plug-in adapter is now fully working. So what remains to do is,
- Convince that company to send me a handful GB/GBA connectors after all (they just got a PO from Canon and Panasonic and told me they don’t care about my order any longer. Sigh.) [Update: Got all connectors in stock now.]
- Find a company that makes affordable small batches of PCBs. Olimex are just a tad too bitchy for my taste, so should I go for China again? [Update: Found a very professional company in China, PCBCART. Lots of interesting non-standard options (such as chamfered edges, choice of solder stop colours, gold plating, etc), very competitive pricing w/ online quote, fast lead time, and a true pleasure to deal with. The boards show some very slight misalignment between top and bottom layers but are of pretty nice quality otherwise.]
You see, this is going to take another couple of months :D [Update: True, but SO worth it]

This is great! Finally if I ever afford this thing I will be able to dump my GB cart that hasn’t been uploaded to the internet yet! I have been wanting to to dump it for ages. This is some impressive stuff Matthias. (also nice choice for GB game)
Here is a shameless plug as I am really proud of him: Now that people will be able to play their n64 games on their computer the (rare illusive $100) adaptoid is now no longer the only n64 controller to USB adapter that supports rumble my good friend Ulao has mastered it you can head around to his forums http://blissbox.freeforums.org/ or go to his website http://spawnlinux.dyndns.org/Bliss-Box/ and order one, he offers several other controller types and has almost got all of their rumbles down too. [/shameless plug]
Hi, did you check any other German companies? I know this one for instance: http://www.rinde.de/produkte.htm
Dunno if that helps…
Awesome I wish you the best! Keep up the good work master!
Just a curious question – I seem to remember reading that Game Boy games need 5V, and Game Boy Advance games need 3.3V, so I just wondered if there is a switch on the adaptor to change the voltage? and if so is it a manual or automatic switch?
Turns out that most 5V carts (GB/GBC/SNES/MD) work just fine at 3V3, so I figured the easiest solution would be to regulate the entire Retrode supply voltage down. The N64/GB adapter will therefore consist of two parts, the other one being a little gizmo to plug between the Retrode and the host system.
I’m sure the burning question on everyone’s mind is obviously “how did the barbecue go?”
j/k :) The new adapter looks very promising! Though it looks like the big fat N64 cartridge might make the poor Retrode topple over…
Barbecue was a big success. As for the N64 cart, I would have preferred a vertical solution, but well. Form follows function :) By the way, the N64 adapter will fit in an empty Genesis cartridge case (with some cutouts, of course).
The thought of an N64 and Game Boy cartridge adapter does make me think of Pokemon Stadium and the pak that came with it. I can think of what it was called off hand, but I do have one around here somewhere. If I had to take a guess, I would say it was called a “controller pak.” Best of luck.
This was called the Transfer Pak. The Controller Paks are the “Memory Cards” of the N64.
Thanks, it has been so long since I played that game that I have forgotten.
